This was more like a Table of Contents, and I could not find Envelope information. ![]() An index is alphabetical, as I understand the term. In fact, the "index" was not really an index at all but some sort of table of contents. Searching what was called an index for Writer, I could not find any entry for "Envelopes". I Googled a guide to LOW and downloaded it. ![]() I decided that I need a guide to using the envelope feature. When I printed the envelope, my choices were not implemented, and I had an envelope with margins and spacings that were not my choice. I supposed that my adjustments would be saved automatically. When I finished, I did not see a save button. Very encouraging! I decided to make the effort to adjust these details to suit the type of envelope I use, and I inserted my sender address. But pushing on, I opened the "Envelope" selection and a dialogue appeared offering me choices of envelope size, Addressee, Sender, etc. I don't intend to insert it any place but an outgoing mail box. That seems to me a strange heading for the purpose of creating an envelope. To get to them Click Insert > Envelope from the Menu bar You will then see a place to select the envelope size/template. I found "envelopes" under the tab "Insert" in the top bar of the LOW page. There are envelope templates included with LibreOffice. Along with the letters, I like to print their envelopes. I use a word processor for writing personal business letters. Once you get it how you want it just save the file as a template.ĮnvelopeTemplate_US10_RightFeed_FlapToLeft.odt (7.I installed Libre Office Writer (LOW) in my Linux Mint 2.1 desktop system. You may need to move the return address frame so it all prints. With plain paper in your printer print this document. Put some text in both of them for text purposes. Just drag them and size them as you like. Now you want to insert 2 more frames and drag them to the ares where the return address and addressee address should appear. On the Borders tab click None and set Spacing to Contents to 0 then OK out.ĭrag this frame to the bottom of the page and tap Enter to get inside the frame. On the Type tab set the Width to 9.5 inches and the Height to 4.125 (again US #10 or 41/8 inches). All documents in LibreOffice are based on templates. OOo will complain about this – just ignore it.Ĭlick on the Organizer tab and set Next Style to Default.ĭo Insert > Frame. Height should be 8.5 inches and, if so, leave it alone. In the Format box select User and set Width to the length of your envelope. Right click Env, select Modify and do the following:Ĭlick the Page tab and before you do anything else put the bullet in Landscape. ![]() Open the Stylist (F11), click the Page Style icon, on the right side drop down sect New Style from Selection. Open a new Writer document which by default should be in the Default page style which is US Letter 8.5 x 11 inches. They assume a US English installation but should work for other Default paper sizes. If you need a different size envelope here are the basic instructions. It contains a User Field that will prompt for the addressee information once the file is saved as a template. This template is for a US #10 standard business envelope 4 and 1 eighth by 9 and 1 half (41/8 x 91/2). The template wad test an an HP Officejet 5610 which prints to the bottom side of the paper as viewed when inserting it in the printer but I think it should work with other right side envelope loading printer no matter which side of the paper is printed on. I have not been able to conquer the flap to the right. Attached is a template for such an envelope but it will work only if you place the envelope flap to the left although the envelope is still loaded on the right. I am able to use templates but not tech savvy enough to make one that will allow the narrow end of the envelope to feed into the printer. I would then print it on my Brother MFC J885DW printer. Beginning with version 2.3.1, I think, Insert > Envelope for an envelope loaded on the right side does not work properly even if you know what you are doing. I need an easy to use template for a 10 envelope so I can type in a return and to address.
